Divisor Calculator
With this divisor calculator, you'll quickly know what the divisors of any integer number are. You can use it to find the factors of 36, 48, 512, or any number you want.
To use this calculator, enter any positive integer, and we'll immediately provide you with the positive divisors of that number. You can also input two numbers and look at the common divisors they share (learn more in our common factor calculator).
To learn more about this topic, keep reading this article, where we present what divisors are in math and the divisibility rules to obtain them. And if you want to go beyond and obtain the prime factors, visit our prime factorization calculator.
What is a divisor in math? Divisor definition
By definition, a divisor is a number that divides another number (the dividend) in a division operation, resulting in a quotient:
Dividend / Divisor = Quotient
This calculator focuses on obtaining those divisors of an integer dividend that result in an integer quotient: the divisors of an integer. You input the dividend, and we provide you with the divisor. For simplicity, the divisors of an integer are usually known as divisors or factors.
For example, we know 6 is a divisor of 24 because dividing 24 by 6 results in an integer: 24/6 = 4. Another factor of 24 is 2 because 24/2 = 12 (an integer number).
Calculating divisors: divisibility rules
Instead of checking divisibility by direct division, we can use some rules for the smaller numbers and obtain the answer more quickly. The following list provides the numbers from 1 to 10, along with the requirements a number must fulfill to be divisible by them:
- 1: Any number is divisible by
1. - 2: If the last digit is even.
- 3: The sum of the digits in the number is divisible by
3. - 4: The last two digits form a number divisible by
4. - 5: If it ends in
5or0. - 6: If it is divisible by both
2and3. - 7: Calculating these divisors is a bit more complicated. We discuss it in our factor calculator article.
- 8: If the last three digits form a number divisible by
8. - 9: If the sum of the digits is divisible by
9. - 10: If the number ends in
0.
Checking divisibility by higher numbers (such as 16 or 24) is a more laborious task, and the best option will probably be using this divisor calculator.
FAQs
- What are the factors of 36?
- There are nine factors of 36: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 36. Below is the explanation: 2 is a factor of 36 because the last digit (6) is even; 3: the sum of the digits (3 + 6 = 9) is divisible by 3; 4: the double division by 2 is an integer (36/2 = 18 → 18/2 = 9); 6: 36 is divisible by 2 and 3; 9: the sum of the digits (3 + 6 = 9) is divisible by 9; 12: 36 is divisible by 3 and 4; and 18: 36 is divisible by 2 and 9.
- What are the factors of 24?
- There are eight factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24. Below is the explanation of each one: 2 is a factor of 24 because the last digit (4) is even; 3: because the sum of the digits (2 + 4 = 6) is divisible by 3; 4: the double division by 2 is an integer (24/2 = 12 → 12/2 = 6); 6: 24 is divisible by 2 and 3; 8: dividing 24 by 8 results in an integer: 24/8 = 3; and 12: 24 is divisible by 3 and 4;
- What are the factors of 512?
- There are ten factors of 512: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512.
